ESCALATION!A few days ago I posted about a NYT article written about this place where Jiddy & a few other SLC grads live, Cedar House. WELL. It’s sparked numerous outraged responses, from Gawker (which lists details from the article as “what the New York Times things is cool”, versus “What is actually cool: Wearing sunglasses, saying swears, doing drugs”), to respectable, unbiased news outlet Christwire (“From their incessant need to have pre-marital sex or else masturbate themselves numb to their shameless willingness to feed from the trough of hardworking Americans to support their blogs, indie bands or t-shirt companies, these people embody the death of the Puritan ethic”). I am pretty sure the Christwire one was written by the Awl as a joke, since they mention the Awl and threw in a picture of the Swiss  “Birthday Clown” in their hipster montage.

nothing makes me happier than the escalation of this. i was really scared that that article was just going to fade into the background with no reaction…

My response was not really “outrage”! It was, “lol,” and “sigh,” and “gratitude for an opportunity to use a joke I had already made that day but this time with a ‘news hook.’” If I were outraged every time the NYT wrote an article like that I would be dead, of outrage.
My post isn’t as good as the Christwire one, though.
OK, fine, I was outraged.
